If you’re looking for the best hotels in Langkawi to maximise your time in this Malaysian archipelago of 99 islands, then look no further than the Westin Langkawi. Whether you’re looking for a hotel for a short stay, or for a longer trip, read our review of the Westin Langkawi and why we would recommend choosing it if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Langkawi.
The Best Things about the Westin Langkawi
#1
The Westin Langkawi is brilliant if you’re travelling with kids. It’s a family-friendly resort but still feels like a slice of luxury. Our kids loved staying here and enjoyed the kids’ clubs activities as well as the various pool areas. We had read reviews of the Westin Langkawi before we chose it, and whilst we had high hopes, we were still pleasantly surprised about how kid-friendly the hotel was. The staff went out of their way to make the kids feel welcome, which made it easier for us to enjoy our stay too!

We knew from reading other Westin Langkawi reviews that the main pool area would be picturesque. But honestly, pictures don’t do it justice! Looking out over the Andaman Sea from the main lobby areas or the infinity pool was an absolute treat every single day! And I say that despite typing from my Singapore apartment with a beautiful sea view! The view at the Westin is next level! If you stay at the Westin Langkawi, you’ll also get a stunning sunset view over the beach, and we would definitely recommend having a meal at Tide, the beachfront restaurant at the hotel.

There are 221 rooms, suites and villas at the Westin and from what we could see, you won’t be disappointed no matter where you choose to stay in the resort. We visited the hotel for our 10 year wedding anniversary and so opted to stay in one of their villas with a private pool. It was incredibly spacious (larger than our Singapore apartment!) with multiple bedrooms, a living area and even a small kitchen area if we had wanted to prepare our own food. Having the private pool was a lovely luxury, but given the gorgeous main pool area – it’s not a necessity! Also consider how you feel about wildlife as there are wild monkeys in the resort who may come and say hello! For us, this was a perk of staying in a villa but I appreciate it might not be for everyone!
One of the benefits (as far as our kids were concerned) was that because we were staying in the villa, we got to be driven to and from the main lobby area in a golf buggy! It was one of their favourite parts of the trip! They still talk about it almost a year later. On a serious note though, if you want to be close to the lobby and main parts of the hotel, I wouldn’t recommend staying in a villa as they are set back from the main resort area.

One of the main reasons we chose to stay at the Westin Langkawi was because of how close it is to Singapore. We had not long moved to Singapore when we were looking for a quick weekend away. Flying from Singapore to Langkawi only takes 1.5 hours, and from the airport to the hotel is around 30 minutes so it is the perfect choice for a weekend trip if you live in Singapore. We also opted for private airport transfer that the hotel organised and so getting to the hotel was a seamless experience which meant our holiday got off to a flying start. Flights are also very reasonably-priced and go multiple times a week, with multiple carriers, meaning you have got a few options! We flew with Scoot, Singapore Air’s little sister airline so we also got to earn KrisFlyer points on our trip!

Like many luxury South East Asia resorts, the spa at the Westin is a great addition to this family-friendly resort. Situated on the beachfront, they offer a wide range of treatments and their massage was one of the best I’ve had in a long time! If you have some time before or after your treatment, I’d definitely recommend taking your book and enjoying the tranquil space of the spa at the Westin!
Things to Consider if You’re Travelling to Langkawi
Like lots of South East Asia, the weather can be very changeable. One minute there are bright blue skies, the next minute – tropical rainstorms! We travelled in August and so knew the weather would be unpredictable. Thankfully we did have enough good weather to spend some time in the pool, but we also had a full afternoon of nonstop rain! Thankfully we had packed a few card games so we spent time in the gorgeous lobby area playing Dobble, Top Trumps and Uno for an afternoon!
One of the main attractions of staying at the Westin Langkawi is that it’s fairly remote and has its own private beach. Because of this, there aren’t any huge towns/cities nearby if you want to get out and explore. There are a few excursions that you can take, but we specifically chose the Westin because we could just “fly and flop” for a few days! The closest town is Kuah (about 15 mins in a taxi) where you can find a few restaurants, shops and a Starbucks should you need to feel a bit more connected!
Would You Stay at The Westin Langkawi Again?
Yes. Definitely. Especially if you’re looking for a quick getaway from Singapore where you can guarantee good service and a relaxing break! The Westin was the perfect place for us to unwind after the stress of moving abroad and we would definitely look to return to this hotel, if we visit Langkawi in the future.
If you’re looking for a bit more adventure for your weekend getaway from Singapore, why not check out this review of the Shangri-La Rasa Ria in Kota Kinabalu (in Malaysian Borneo). It’s a 2.5 hour flight, and a 45 min transfer but has a huge amount of activities that you can do on-site as well as lots of offsite excursions.
